Today in Gear: The Product News You Need to Know

Today in Gear is our daily roundup of all the latest product announcements, drops and news from Gear Patrol Studios

According to a Reuters report published Wednesday, foreign governments are attempting to use data from Google and Apple push notifications to track smartphone use. The traffic flowing from apps that use push notifications gives companies “a unique position to facilitate government surveillance of how users are using particular apps,” said Senator Ron Wyden in a letter to the Department of Justice. It may be time to manage those push notifications, if you prefer to remain anonymous to such governments.

Today we’re taking a look at adventurous glassware, a gold-plated digital audio player, a BOSS x Samsonite collab, and more. This is Today in Gear.

A Holiday Treat from Mount Gay Rum
Mount Gay Rum

Mount Gay Rum is the oldest running rum distillery in the world and has been in the business for over 300 years, so you know you can look to it for your new favorite holiday beverage. From its base at the northern tip of Barbados, Mount Gay uses pure, coral-filtered water and the finest Barbadian and Caribbean molasses to create a masterful range of spirits, offering options for your novice to your experts and everyone in between.

If you’re looking for a seasonal sipper, consider Mount Gay Rum’s XO: a triple-cask blend matured in whiskey, bourbon and cognac casks for 5 to 17 years. This process yields notes that read like a decadent holiday dessert – salted caramel, baked fig, clove and dark chocolate. An exceptionally smooth and creamy body and long finish make it the perfect sipping rum. Serve it neat or make yourself a holiday beach vacation in a glass, with a cube of frozen coconut water to bring out a hint of XO’s tropical origins.Bring this small batch reserve rum to your holiday table this season.
