Jeep has been toying around with electric Wrangler concepts. The brand is not ready to take its iconic nameplate electric yet; that Wrangler EV reportedly is coming for 2027. But the Recon EV should be the next best thing while we're waiting. It's boxy. It should be pretty off-road capable. The body looks slightly like the Wrangler, though the grille looks more Grand Cherokee-like.
Here's what you need to know about the new Jeep Recon EV.

The Recon is not a replacement for the Wrangler
Stellantis
Jeep said the Recon is "inspired by the Wrangler." But despite the similar boxy shape, it's not a Wrangler, and it's not intended to replace the Wrangler.
Why didn't Jeep just make this the electric Wrangler? It should feature some key differences. It's likely to ride on the STLA Large EV platform rather than the Wrangler's traditional body-on-frame setup. And we would bet not being the Wrangler frees Jeep to explore sensible options like using an independent front and rear suspension for better on-road handling.
Do we have any power and range specs for the Jeep Recon EV yet?
Stellantis
Jeep hasn't provided firm specs for the Recon yet. But according to the British website Autocar, the Recon will pack nearly 600 horsepower in top-spec and a range of 373 miles. The latter number would drop under more stringent EPA testing but still likely exceed 300 miles.
Jeep has confirmed the Recon will receive the brand's Trail Rated badge. Off-road features will include Jeep's Selec-Terrain traction management system, e-lock axles, underbody protection, tow hooks and — at least judging from the pictures — BFGoodrich all-terrain tires.
What will the Jeep Recon EV look like?
Jeep reportedly showed off a Moab 4xe version of the Recon to dealers at a Stellantis event with several pictures ending up on Jeep Recon Forum. The production vehicle should look a lot like the concept.
The Recon will offer "open air freedom." Jeep confirmed it will feature removable doors and glass and a one-touch powertop. In the concept and spy shots, the side mirrors are affixed to the door, unlike the Ford Bronco.
What will the Jeep Recon price be?
Stellantis
Jeep has not announced pricing for the Recon yet. But think higher upmarket than you'd expect Jeep to be. Motortrend expects the Recon EV to start around $60,000. Autocar says the Recon will rival the Land Rover Defender, which starts around that price point. And we'd expect it to exceed the base price of the Wrangler 4xe hybrid, which is $49,995.
Jeep has said it will unveil the Recon during the 2023 calendar year and open reservations at that point, with production beginning in 2024. But no date has been confirmed publicly yet. The Recon may end up being a 2025 model-year vehicle.
